"Ladies of the Knights" - Red Hat Society Chapter

At most Michigan Knights of the Highway rallies, the "Ladies of the Knights" chapter of the Red Hat Society meets for a tea or a luncheon.   Check the web page for each rally for specific information.

At the annual G.L.A.S.S. Rally, over Memorial Day weekend, a Red Hat Society tea is held and all ladies are welcome.  The picture to the left is from G.L.A.S.S. 2004.

From the web site of the Red Hat Society"Welcome to the place where there is fun after fifty (and before) for women of all walks of life. We believe silliness is the comedy relief of life and, since we are all in it together, we might as well join red-gloved hands and go for the gusto together. Underneath the frivolity, we share a bond of affection, forged by common life experiences and a genuine enthusiasm for wherever life takes us next."

"The Red Hat Society is often referred to fondly as a "disorganization," though we have been forced to impart a degree of order to our operations. It was inadvertently begun by Sue Ellen Cooper of Fullerton, California when she and a few friends took inspiration from a popular poem entitled "Warning" by Jenny Joseph, which begins "When I am an old woman...". Since the poem mentions wearing a red hat and purple attire, she and her friends formed a group that met on a regular basis for tea in their red hats and purple dresses - in public, of course."

"When Sue Ellen and her friends were featured in Romantic Homes magazine in July 2000, they began fielding inquiries from other women who wanted to start their own chapters. For a more detailed account of the origins of the Red Hat Society, please read the page entitled, "How It All Started" on the Red Hat Society web site."

At Michigan Knights of the Highway rallies, we are already dedicated to having lots of fun, so it seems natural that the the Ladies of the Knights would like to escalate the fun by having their own Red Hat Society chapter meetings.  Thus, Chapter # 17595 of the Red Hat Society was registered for us by Judy Kohn.

So, ladies, please join us at the next rally.  Bring a purple dress, a red hat, red gloves and be part of the fun!
